Venture Scout Training Programme

The Venture Scout Awards encourage each Member to take part in a wide range of self-selected activities, and to show personal development. These activities often form the basis of the Unit's program.

All Venture Scout awards are done through the setting of targets and subsequent achievements are to be agreed with the Unit Executive Committee.

The three stages of Progressive Training in the Venture Scout Section are:

The Venture Scout Membership Badge
This is awarded at an Investiture as soon as the Unit Executive deem appropriate. This badge is worn by all invested group members and shows that they are members of the Scout Movement.

The Venture Scout Award
To achieve the Venture Scout Award, a Venture Scout must have made personal progress and widened their experience and skill in each of the following areas of personal growth. Full details of possible activities and standards of assessment are to be found in The Venture Scout Training Scheme published by The Scout Association.

  • Activity - active involvement in active pursuits
  • Community - help in the community
  • Creativity - self expression through creative expression
  • Independence - acquire practical life skills
  • International - learn and respect other cultures
  • Leadership - undertake responsibility for the unit
  • Environment - care for the environment
  • Relationships - learning to live with others
  • Values - respect and toleration of others

The Queen's Scout Award
The Queen's Scout Award builds upon the Venture Scout Award and again the activities incorporate challenge, service to others, self-reliance and initiative. This award can only be passed after an informal interview with the District Commissioner, who maintains the very high standards of the award. Those Venture Scouts who have gained the Queen’s Scout Award are invited to take part in the annual Queen’s Scout Parade at Windsor Castle. It consists of the following sections;

  • Community - help in the community for 36 hours or more
  • Leadership - under take Leader level training
  • Exploration - plan and carry out a challenging expedition
  • Assessment - satisfy the high standard of the award
