Unit outings are common and due to the age of the Members we quite often
get out of the HQ on an evening. We try to go on a weekend outing at
least once a month, this could be a full overnight camp or just a trip
shopping to the local cities.
County Scout Jamboree 2000 Or not as the case may be
The 2000 Jamboree was a wash out. However, so as not to waste the weekend,
the ventures decided to go on a day trip to Bristol. They wanted to visit
the newly opened IMAX
cinema @ Bristol.
We decide to see a late film showing and travelled slowly up the coast to Bristol.
On route we visited Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Station where we took a guided tour
around the power station run by British Energy. We had dinner on the sea front in Highbridge
and then stopped at Weston-Super-Mere to visit the pier amusements.
The IMAX® Theatre @ Bristol is the only IMAX® screen in the South West. The screen is
a massive 21 metres wide and 15 metres tall and it is this sheer size which makes the
Imax experience so unique. We decided to watch the next film
The Secret Life on Earth.
This is an excellent way to watch a film. Because the screen is so large, it fills
your peripheral vision giving the impression that you are right in the middle of the
action itself. Put this together with the highest quality film picture attainable in
motion picture history - and crystal clear digital surround sound - and you'll agree
that a visit to the Imax theatre is an unforgettable experience.
On the whole a good time was had by all and the disappointment of the canceled
jamboree was forgotten for one day at least.
