Camp Reports |
 |
Unit camps are normally informal affairs. After all the hard work in the
Scout section, Ventures try to put their training in to practice in a
relaxed environment. A Unit camp can be anything from pot holing in the
south of France to visiting Amusement parks in the UK.
These are some of our more recent camps, see the bottom of the page for
reports on older camps.

County Scout Jamboree 2000
The 2000 Jamboree was to see the investiture of two of our new Members. This
was going to be the camp of the Millennium and the opportunities for a unusual
investiture would have been abound. However, the rains fell, and mud deepened.
Eventually the camp was washed out and we all returned to the Scout HQ to
spend a dry night.
Unfortunately this left two un-invested members, an impromptu ceremony in the HQ
rectified this, with a promise of an opportunity to stage an unusual
re-investiture later.

It's Grim Up North '99
Summer 1999 saw the Unit touring the Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Lancashire moors
and dales. After spending Sherwood '98 with a group from Yorkshire and seeing as
both the Venture Scout Leader and Assistant Leader come from Yorkshire, we thought
this would be a good place to hold a camp.
The camp was based around equal amounts of pleasure and pain. The pleasure was to
be had on hiking around the Derbyshire Peak District and the North Yorkshire Moors.
The pain was riding on the longest and highest roller-coasters in England, at
Lightwater Valley
and
Blackpool Pleasure Beach respectively. Some Members may dispute
this and say the pleasure was the roller-coasters and the pain was the hikes - but
each to their own opinion.

Sherwood '98
Summer camp 1998 was spent at Sherwood '98 and international camp held in
Sherwood forest, Nottinghamshire. The camp was attended by Scouts & Guides
from most of the Scouting Countries. There were even Scouts from the former
USSR, where Scouting had been banned.
Six members of the Unit spent the week mingling with the other campers and
participating in the many activities that were available. We had members
gliding, climbing, water sking, white water rafting, ice skating to name but
a few of the activities offered.
Many new friends were made on the camp and the Unit spent most of the week
with another Venture Unit from Yorkshire, England and a Guide Troop from
the United States. The Members swapped Email address and are regularly sending
message back and forth.

Diamond White '97
We invaded the Isle of White in the summer of 1997. We spent a sunny week in
6th Newport Scout HQ at the centre of the island. This was a convenient
location from which to explore. We visited most of the coastal resorts,
spending days at Ryde, Shanklin and Ventnor. We climbed hills, cycled old
railways and recharged old batteries. One of the highlights was the pier
diving or unintentionally the cliff diving (Martyn).
