More About Us |
 |
The Venture Unit differs from the other section in that it is run
by the Ventures for the Ventures. This autonomy is introduced at
Scout level with the Patrol Leaders' Council effecting decisions in
the Troop. However at Venture level the Venture Executive do
everything from planning and executing the programme to handling all the
finances. The Venture Scout Leader is there only to ensure fair play
and to keep the Unit on the straight and narrow - or wiggly and wide as
is usually the case. Of course the Venture Scout Leader is also used as
a cheap taxi service when needed.
Who are Warlocks V.S.U.?
Most Units have names in order to separate them from the others in their
district, a name is easier to remember than a number - We are a name
not a number. 1st Wellington V.S.U. is no exception to this
being called
WARLOCKS V.S.U.
The Unit is about seven years old and started as a joint Unit with
1st Wiveliscombe Scout Group. You can read about its history
and the origins of its name
here.
The current unit is small in size consisting on average of 8 members. Most
of the members have gone through Scouts together. We are also are
currently honoured by have the first members in the Group to have been in
every section.
What does the Unit do?
The Unit runs a varied programme during our weekly meetings, some of the
highlights being, Cinema, Karting, Wide Games, Bowling, Videos & Quizzes.
The Unit also organises many camps and trips, for example, District Camps,
County Jamboree, and Camps at places such as; Torquay, Woolacombe,
Nottingham, Bristol, Exeter & Cheddar. Summer camp features heavily
in the Venture programme, and unlike the traditional Scout Camp, Unit camps
are biased towards relaxation and are akin to more of a Pack Holiday than
a Scout Camp. Check out our
activity reports to see the numerous things
we get up to.
What's this Venture Scout Executive all about?
The Executive meets at least once every two months to ensure the smooth
running of the Unit. Key posts on this committee are Chairperson,
Secretary and Treasurer, other posts such as PR Officer, Quartermaster,
etc., are The Executive use
The Constitution as the guidelines to what can and can't be
done. This is a list of rules drawn up by the members at the Annual
General Meeting as Unit specific guidelines over those of the Scouting
Movement.
