1st Wellington Scout Group is located in Wellington, Somerset, England.
Wellington is a small town in the heart of the West Country. It
lies about 7 miles south west of Taunton, the county town of Somerset.
Somerset is one of the South West counties of England and is famed for
its cider making.
Wellington is situated in the South West corner of Somerset, nestling
beneath the
Blackdown Hills. The hills are officially an Area of
Outstanding Beauty and, according to the Countryside Commission,
constitute archetypal English landscape. Naturally, theyre a
magnet for riders and walkers but happily never overrun.
Towering above Wellington on the highest point of the Blackdown
Hills, known as Staple Hill, is
The Wellington Monument. Illuminated at night, it commemorates the
Duke of Wellington, the victor of the Battle of Waterloo,
who took his title from the town.
Wellington has most of the facilities expected of a town of its size. It
has a Secondary School and world famous
Private School.
It also has a cinema, sports centre including swimming pool and dry ski
slope.
Wellington is approximately 7 miles from Taunton, the county town, and
further facilities can be found there, such as an
Odeon cinema and
Hollywood Bowl ten pin bowling.
Wellington is easy to get to being well served by the M5 motorway and is
well worth a visit.
