Cub Scout Training Programme

When a boy or girl joins the Pack, they are introduced to Cub Scouting and to the Cub Scout Progressive Training Programme which has been designed to meet the varying needs of youngsters today. The program can be adapted to suit the individual and their environment. They will have the opportunity to gain Awards and badges which are given in recognition of the effort made by each youngster at their own level of development and understanding.

The four stages of Progressive Training in the Cub Scout Section are:

There is also a special Cub Scout Challenge for Cub Scouts over 9½ years old and a wide range of free choice Activity Badges.

The Cub Scout Membership Badge
This is awarded at a Promise Ceremony after four to six weeks in the Pack. This badge is worn by all invested group members and shows that they are members of the Scout Movement.

The Cub Scout Award
This Award should take approximately three to six months to complete and is compulsory regardless of the age on joining the Pack. It consists of the following sections;

  • Tracking - follow a trail
  • Country Code - find out about the code
  • Good Turns - keep a weeks diary of good turns
  • First Aid - know the importance of first aid
  • My Promise - make up a simple prayer

The Adventure Award
This award should take approximately 10 months to complete. It consists of the following sections;

  • Outdoor Scouting - take part in Scouting outdoors
  • Sports & Hobbies - show a sportsmanlike attitude
  • Helping Others - show how you can help others
  • Looking after yourself - demonstrate personal safety
  • Science - carry out a simple experiment or observation
  • Creativity - show some form of creativity
  • Community - find out about your local community
  • Countries & Cultures - find out more about your country and customs
  • My Promise - understand and use the Cub Scout Promise and Law

The Adventure Crest Award
This award should take approximately 10 months to complete. It consists of the same sections as the Adventure Award and to complete the award the Cub Scout must undertake each of sections of the Adventure Award to a higher or more advanced standard.

Note: There is also a full range of activity badges, everything from the 'Animal Lover Badge' to the 'Writer Badge'.
