Beaver meetings are packed with information and games and we could never
in a million years write a report on them all. There just aren't enough
hours in the day. However, once in a while we may do something big, daring
or different which deserves a mention.
Cubs & Beavers get a visit from Secret World
The summer 2000 term was rounded off by a visit from Secret World.
This is a wildlife rescue centre based in Somerset. A representative from
the centre gave a talk to the Pack and Colony about the work they do at the
centre and the types of animals they look after. Three different types of
animals were brought to the HQ for the children to view. Firstly, there was
a hedgehog which everybody was allowed to stroke, not prickly at all.
Secondly two bats were shown, these clung to the representatives shirt and
only the Cub Leader was allowed to stroke them, so she could tell the children
what it was like. Finally, a barn owl was brought in and the children were taught
all about its habitat and how barns are in decline and it has fewer places to
live.
Overall this was a very entertaining and informative evening. We would certainly
recommend a trip to Secret World
